A POEM for Rockash: A Mandingo Voice Transcending Borders

In the quiet dawn, before the roosters called the world awake,

a young boy named ROCKASH listened to the earth breathe.

From the Mandingo heartland, where stories travel on the wind

and wisdom is carried in the voices of elders,

his spirit learned its first melody.

They say every tribe has a keeper of memory.

Every people has a voice chosen by destiny.

And for the Mandingo of Liberia,

that voice rose from a child with fire in his chest

and rhythm in his blood.

He sings before he speaks

He feels before he understands.

He carries the ancestors in his throat.

The balafon whispers to him.

The djembe thunders for him

The old griots nods, saying,

“This one… this one was born with a song inside.”

As he grew, his voice stretched like the savannah horizon—

wide, warm, unbroken.

He sang of love, journeys, of traders on dusty roads,

of mothers who prayed under moonlight,

of warriors who stood tall with honor,

of a people who survived by remembering who they are.

Rockash has become the echo of his lineage,

the bridge between yesterday and tomorrow.

His music carries the scent of kola nuts,

the strength of caravan drums,

the tenderness of a grandmother’s blessing.

And when he steps onto the stage,

he does not perform—

he summons.

He summons pride.

He summons unity.

He summons the Mandingo spirit

that refuses to fade.

Today, when Rockash sings,

the ancestors lean closer.

The youth stand taller.

And Liberia is reminded

that folk music is not old—

it is eternal.

He is not just an artist.

He is a keeper of memory.

A guardian of culture.

A Mandingo flame that will not be dim.
